چکیده
voltage-gated K channels in other cell types [Ba 2 mM; Cs 5 mM; TEA (tetraethylammonium) 20 mM; EGTA 1 mM) (Lew & Ferreira, 1978; Egan et ul., 1987) did not, however, alter ouabainand bumetanide-insensitive K uptake. The substitution of CH,SO, for CI in the incubation medium reduced the residual K uptake by about 18%, suggesting that a Cldependent K transport pathway similar to that observed in other cell types (Hoffmann, 1986) might be present. Thus, in common with other cell types, K uptake in chondrocytes is mediated partly by the Na/K pump and (Na + K) co-transport pathways, although there are other pathways present in chondrocytes which are still to be defined. The pericellular environment of chondrocytes in loadbearing cartilages is constantly changing as fluid is pumped into and out of the tissue (Urban & Bavliss. 1987). The physiologically relevant to chondrocytes, since they are surrounded by a pericellular environment, the osmolality of which is considerably greater than that of conventional incubation media.

Molecular characterization of Vibrio cholerae O1 biotype El Tor strains isolated between 1992 and 1995 in Calcutta, India: evidence for the emergence of a new clone of the El Tor biotype.
Sixty-one clinical strains of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor isolated in Calcutta before, during, and after the V. cholerae O139 Bengal outbreak were examined to see if the O1 strains of the post-O139 period were different from those in existence before. Comparison of the restriction fragment length polymorphism of the rRNA genes (ribotyping) and the CTX genetic element revealed that all "before" st...

Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of cholera, a life threatening and watery diarrhoea that causes an estimated 3–5 million cholera cases and100000–120000 deaths per year (Zuckerman et al., 2007). The current pandemic of cholera is caused by El Tor biotype of the O1 serotype distinct from the classical biotype that is responsible for the previous pandemics. Recently, V. cholerae strains iso...

Eighty-four strains of Vibrio cholerae O1, O139 and non-O1/non-O139 from clinical and environmental sources were investigated for the presence of the toxin co-regulated pilus gene, tcpA, the virulence cassette genes ctxA, zot, ace and cep and also for their ability to elaborate haemolysin and protease. The ctxA and zot genes were detected using DNA-DNA hybridization while the ace, cep and tcpA ...
متن کاملDifferential transcription of the tcpPH operon confers biotype-specific control of the Vibrio cholerae ToxR virulence regulon.
Epidemic strains of Vibrio cholerae O1 are divided into two biotypes, classical and El Tor. In both biotypes, regulation of virulence gene expression depends on a cascade in which ToxR activates expression of ToxT, and ToxT activates expression of cholera toxin and other virulence genes. In the classical biotype, maximal expression of this ToxR regulon in vitro occurs at 30 degrees C at pH 6.5 ...
